Introduction

What is ThatsMyFace.com?

ThatsMyFace.com offers services related to human faces, specifically online 3D facial analysis and custom-made face or head products.

You have a spelling error in ThatsMyFace...

You don't say?! Internet domain names do not support apostrophes and since domain squatters occupy every imaginable domain, we settled for this catchy idiom. Pester Craigslist.com or Flickr.com for further details.

Photo Submission

What kind of photos do you need?

Please see our Photo Guidelines

I want to buy a custom action figure. When and where do I submit my photos?

You can upload your portrait photos directly to our website to see your 3D Face for free. You can try uploading various photo combinations to see which one works best. When you are happy with the results, click on the Buy button on your chosen 3D Face to select it. Or use the Face Selector in the Store to select it. Your chosen 3D Face will appear as selected in the checkout process.

Alternatively, you can place your order and email us the photos by following the instructions in the order confirmation email.

If you'd like to make sure your photos are suitable before placing your order, please email your photos to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll let you know if they are suitable.

I'm still waiting for my 3D Face?

Creating a realistic 3D Face from photographs is a complex and computation-intensive task. Your face is now probably in our queue waiting to be processed and rendered by our servers. If an unforeseen error occured, you might need to resubmit it.

Attention: ThatsMyFace has recently received a surge of interest so please be patient. You'll be notified by email when it is complete. We are in the process of scaling up our infrastructure so don't despair!

I can't place the facial points with Internet Explorer 6...

You might experience varying levels of functionality if you use browsers other than Firefox 2/3 or Internet Explorer 7+. We've tried our best to ensure compatibility with other browsers such as Internet Explorer 6, Opera, Chrome and Safari, but there might still be a few glitches that we're due to iron out. If in doubt, the latest version of free browser Firefox will give the most reliable experience.

Can you retouch my photos before submission?

Yes. If you email us your photos at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , we can retouch them to remove shadowing, blemishes, red-eyes, soften wrinkles or remove shine, to name a few. Prices start at $30 per photo. Alternatively, you can find many affordable online retouching services : http://www.google.com/search?q=photo+retouching+service

If my photo is Black&White will it head be in color?

No. The color information in the photo is what is used to generate the face. So if it's black&white in the photo, it'll produce a B&W head. You can find many affordable online retouching services who will colorize your photo : http://www.google.com/search?q=photo+retouching+service

If I'm wearing glasses on my photo is that ok?

No. The glasses will be interpreted as part of your skin complexion, so they'll be sort of tattooed onto your face in the final head. You can find many affordable online retouching services who will remove glasses from your photo : http://www.google.com/search?q=photo+retouching+service

Can I submit photos of pets, cartoons, monsters or non-human faces?

You can try uploading these for free, but the results probably most likely won't be realistic as our system is geared towards human faces. The system is quite tolerant of cartoony/weird skin colors, but the general shape of the face should remain within the range of possible human faces. This is why cat or dog photos won't work.

Can I submit photos of a celebrity?

You would need to clear the rights with the rights holders before placing the order with us. We are unable to determine if your photos are of a celebrity or not, so it is your responsibility to verify rights issues when placing an order with us - we will therefore not be held liable or responsible for customer submissions.

Products

What are the custom models made of?

The 3D Portraits and Heads are made of a hard resin composite in full 24-bit color with a matte varnish. The colors are not painted on but are actually part of the make-up of a thick color outer layer of the model. Due the to the manufacturing process, the surface is slightly rough to the touch (sugar-coated) and some layering can be visible. Please avoid banging, wetting or direct sunlight.

Are your products suitable for children?

Our products are not suitable for children and are collector items intended for adults. Some products may contain small parts not intended for children and can be a chocking hazard.

Do you make licensed characters?

We do not make action figures of licensed characters, although we do offer them for resale. These figures are included in their original packaging so as to respect trademark requirements. ThatsMyFace.com is not associated in any way with Barbie, Mattel, Hasbro or any other doll or action figure manufacturer whose items are shown throughout the website.

What is your order policy?

Please find all the relevant details here.

Why are some of these premium-priced products?

Most items, such as action figures or masks, available in stores are mass-produced, enabling substantial cost savings. The initial design and engineering costs are amortized over time and quantity. A single set of molds (costing thousands itself) produces thousands of identical items quickly and cheaply.

On the other hand, each of our products are unique and made-to-order. Manufacturing a single item can take up to several days of labour. Finally, the materials used by the custom manufacturing process are considerably more expensive than the generic plastics used in say, your average action figure.

Custom Action Figures

Can you do custom outfits?

We do offer custom outfits for our action figures. It is available as the Custom and Custom Plus outfit option in the Male Outfits and Female Outfits tab on the Custom Action Figure page. Before placing your order, please contact email us with your requirements at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your outfit requirements and we will let you know which Custom option to choose and if we can match your targeted outfit.

In order to offer low prices, we use existing action figure clothing we have in stock to outfit our figurines. Tailoring custom figurine clothing is not within the budget of our products and is a service we do not offer. However, we do offer T-shirts with your custom logo/photo/lettering on them which is available if you pick the Custom Plus outfit option.

What hairstyles do you offer in hairscuplts?

Please visit our current selection of hairsculpts which are available in multiple colors.

I can't find my exact hairstyle in your available template hairstyles. Can you create my hairstyle?

We do offer the service to design specific hairstyles for customers. Our expert 3D designer spends between 1 to 3 days in general per hairstyle. Prices per hairstyle commission start at $150 and costs increase depending on the complexity of the hairstyle.

Alternatively, you can order the synthetic wig hair option and style it to your liking.

Can you match the color of the custom head to my action figure body?

The coloring of the head is determined by the source photo of the person. Each figurine's skin color is fixed and varies depending on each figurine model. In our 12" custom figure range, we do however offer three body colorings: Afro American, Brown and Caucasian. Exactly matching the skin color of the head to that of a figurine's skin color is difficult and could affect the likeness of the head, so it is not a service we offer. Slight differences in skin tones between the head and the figurine body is common in the collectors market as well as some retail models. This is principally due to cost and reusability issues, for the same reason that articulation joints are visible on most figurines.

How do I attach my custom head to my action figure?

Please refer to our Head Attaching tutorial for instructions and HowTo videos.

Packaging

What is the packaging like?

The default packaging is mostly nondescript.

Do you offer custom packaging?

We hope to offer this soon. For the action figures, customers will be able to customize the name label and photo printed onto the packaging, which will show the pre-mounted head on the figure through the transparent plastic cover.

Privacy and Photo Deletion

How do I make my photos private?

For future reference, when uploading photos you are given the option in the Advanced tab to make the photos private, semi-private or public.

First log in, then in the 'My Faces' menu option, select the facial profile you'd like private or semi-private. In the first box where your source photos and details are shown, there's an option called "Privacy Settings". Click on it and a set of controls should appear and allow you to set your profile to private so that only you can see it when you are logged in, or semi-private so that only people who you send a link to this profile can know about it.

Privacy Controls for Facial profiles

If the Privacy Settings options somehow does not appear/expand, please try again with the following browsers: FireFox 2+ or Internet Explorer 7.

Alternatively, to make ALL your facial profiles (included failed or partially submitted ones) PRIVATE so that only you can see them, go to Make All Private.

More Details: You can choose to make only your original source photo (i.e. the ones of real self, not our synthetic reconstruction) private so as to keep the slideshow/bookmarking/commenting functionality and so that your face is included in the website rankings and lookalikes. Note that the privacy options are settable right from the photo submission form, just below the name and gender fields. By default, the profiles are public.

Warning: Search engines can take several days to update their search results and remove thumbnails of your photos from their servers.

How do I delete my account?

Note that you can set your images to 'Private' so that no one else can see them and they won't be accessible by search engines. Please refer to How do I make my photos private? for details.
